My kitchen garden bounty: Red Basil, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes and Chives. Fresh! Organic! Delicious!
I love having a kitchen garden. There is something so peaceful, renewing and refreshing about growing your own herbs and vegetables. Not to mention that the addition of fresh herbs can do for a dish. With the addition of fresh herbs, the mundane becomes sublime.
No one will ever mistake me for a farm girl, but I’m holding my own with this gardening thing. My tiny raised bed and patio container garden has provided my family table with a bounty of heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and fresh herbs. If you’ve never had garden fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, sprinkled with chives and basil and then drizzled with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then you have truly been missing out my friend!
My little kitchen garden is nothing fancy. By most standards its a bit wild and a little unkempt. But, it provides me with fresh, delicious herbs, vegetables and so much more!
My little kitchen garden gives me:
- A place of peace and relaxation.
- Family time.
- Much needed exercise.
- Mental Stimulation.
- Reflections of my Mom (The Original Meme) and her love of plants and gardening.
I love using beautiful tools like these that I found on The Grommet to keep my garden in check.
My raised plant beds and assorted planters do not a large garden make, but for some people, even my tiny kitchen garden takes more space than they have to spare. But never fear, everyone can have a kitchen garden.
“Where? How can this be?”, you say. Well, I’ve got the perfect solution for you!
I’m a huge fan of The Grommet! It’s a super cool website featuring new and exciting tools and inventions. This is their deal: “We launch 1-2 new products each day and help them succeed; we call them Grommets. Grommets aren’t just things. Grommets are products with a purpose invented by people with stories. Buy differently.” I believe in living differently, why not buy differently? The folks at The Grommet are my kind of people!
While scrolling through the site the other day, I ran across some great solutions for the space challenged kitchen gardener. Being an avid tea drinker, I was enchanted by the idea of using recycled tea bags to make containers for your kitchen garden. And, I love that they are organic!
With the advent of Fall and the growing season coming to an end soon, I definitely plan to get some of these cute little pots to go on the shelf just above my kitchen sink. So, whether I’m roasting tomatoes or want to toss some homemade pasta with some fresh herbs, I’ll be ready to go!
